2018, The Year Of You!
The New Year is here and we all know what that means, gym memberships are being bought, fad diets are starting, and unenthused commitments are being made.
Often times it's hard to motivate yourself to keep resolutions all year long. But 2018 can be different. Let 2018 be the year of you! Let this be the year that you break free of what clung on to you in 2017 and put yourself first!
Here are some New Years resolutions that will help to make yourself a priority in 2018:
1. Get Fit
Unfortunately, getting fit does not happen over night... its a lifestyle change. I'm sure all of you are rolling your eyes right now but the secret to getting fit in 2018 is to just keep moving! Make the small changes in your life like walking to work, taking the stairs, and binge watching Netflix while on the stair master instead of your futon. Make getting fit fun instead of a chore by signing up for classes at CycleBar and SoulCycle. Accountability is key when getting fit. Share and track your process with friends or download apps like Blogilaties to track your process.
2. Be Better With Money
For me, I struggle with impulse shopping and "retail therapy." Sometimes I end up buying an item I never use, food that is never eaten, or tickets to a show I'm not that interested in. If you're like me and like to swipe your debit card left and right, stop worrying, there is a cure. When I fall in love with anything in a store I never buy it right away. Instead, I will walk around and keep shopping and if I keep thinking about the item I’ll go back and put it on hold. After, I’ll go home and sleep on it. If I don’t wake up in the morning desperately wanting whatever it is I fell in love with, then I won’t buy it! This also probably means you didn’t need it in the first place. BOOM! That’s how you overcome impulse buying—just give it a minute.
3. Find A New Hobby
Besides your day-to-day job, you have a hobby right? If not, in 2018 you can find something you love to do! Whether it be writing, photography, painting, surfing, or even wine tasting, pick a passion project that gives you genuine joy. Even if its something that requires a new skill, just give it a shot! What's the worse that could happen? What would you do if you knew you wouldn't fail?
4. Spend More Time With Loved Ones
Even if you live thousands of miles away from your family members or your best friends, there are still ways to spend more time with loved ones. If you are "too busy" to talk to family and friends, make the time. It is not hard to commit to a weekly FaceTime call to your kid brother. If you are close to loved ones, start a new tradition so that you can see them more. It can be as simple as a bi-monthly brunch. I challenge you to spend more time with your loved ones WITHOUT YOUR PHONE. Keep it in your car, hide it in a drawer, or just don't bring it at all. Be present.
Let 2018 be the year you decide to put yourself first. All four of these resolutions are things that will make you a better person and a happier person, and who wouldn't want that? What are your New Year's resolutions?
