I'm My Own One True Love
Valentine’s Day is an interesting time for all of us. Some people are crazy in love, others are swiping left and right on tinder, and some of us just want to eat Chocolate Halo Top while binge watching 80's rom coms. Whatever your situation is this year for Valentine’s Day, I challenge you to take time out of your month and spend some time falling in love with yourself! Here's how to do it:
1. Try words of affirmation
Positive affirmations are a great way to reduce negative self-talk and increase self-confidence. A good way to get comfortable with this method is to start your day with a morning mantra. A mantra can go beyond a phrase to keep you focused on the positive and spiritual strong; a mantra has the power to can affect your actions in your everyday life! Create your own mantra or try these 10 self-loving affirmations.
2. Declare your mind a self-judgment free zone
How often do you say to yourself you need to lose weight, or you wish you looked different, or you want to be more like your friends? That nasty cycle of self-criticism and judgment is not healthy—comparison is the thief of joy after all. Your mind is so much more powerful than you think, so when you feel those bad thoughts creeping in, gently remind yourself that you are in control of your thoughts. Take a deep breathe, say your mantra, and remind yourself that you're a badass! The world is already so harsh... the last person you should be criticizing is yourself.
3. Treat yourself to fine wine and chocolate
Dark chocolate and wine are the perfect Valentine’s Day dessert. They’re both delicious, extravagant, and offer health tons of health benefits! Just make sure the chocolate contains 70% cocoa or more. Annnnnnd try to keep it to no more than two glasses of wine ;)
4. Re-evaluate your relationships
Toxic relationships are a source of self-loathing. These relationships can suck out our energy and replace it with negativity. A great gift to yourself on this relationship-focused holiday might be to evaluate which relationships are making you a better person, and which ones are not. Make a plan to further develop relationships that are healthy and thriving, and cut down on time spent on ones that are unhealthy.
5. Go out with friends who lift you up
This month, stop hanging out with the friend who is always one-upping you, dissing other people, and tearing you down. Go out with people who love you for who you are and add positivity to your life. Trust me when I say, it's easier to fall in love with yourself when you have a kickass support system! At the end of the day, you are a product of who you surround yourself with so why not surround yourself with the best vibes possible?
6. You do you
At the end of the day, the best way to practice self-love is to just do you! Break up with the year 2017 for good and pinky promise yourself that you will chose, honor, and remember yourself on a daily basis. Make this promise by treating yourself to a Valentine's Day gift! More specifically, treat yourself to The Self Love Pinky Ring by Fred + Far and join the movement of women in over 40+ countries that are making themselves a priority every day.
Although putting so much emphasis on loving yourself may seem selfish, the reality is that we have very little energy and love to give to other people if we don’t put ourselves first sometimes. Don’t ever let the outside world determine how much you love yourself because guess what... you are amazing! How are you going to love yourself this year on Valentine's Day?
